Smoky Mountain Acres is home to Kune Kune pigs, chickens, and Katahdin sheep in Cosby, Tennessee. Each species contributes something different to the farm, and each has its own needs, habits, and unmistakable personality.
Our animals are handled regularly and raised around people, so many are comfortable and curious around visitors. They are still animals with their own boundaries, which is why interactions are always calm, supervised, and guided by their welfare.
How We Raise Our Animals

Our Kune Kune pigs are friendly, compact, and full of personality. They are well suited to pasture-based living and spend time outdoors rooting, grazing, exploring, and interacting with the herd.
Pasture is paired with organic supplemental feed appropriate for growing and adult pigs. We do not make “grass only” claims; responsible pig care means meeting their nutritional needs as pasture and seasons change.
Depending on the season and our breeding plans, pigs may be available for pets, homesteads, breeding, or whole-hog meat purchases. Availability, breeds, and pricing change as the farm grows.

Our chickens spend their days scratching through grass and leaves, looking for insects, seeds, and plants, and exploring the spaces around their shelters. Their natural foraging is part of farm life, not a substitute for good nutrition.
We supplement pasture with organic poultry feed formulated to support the flock's health and egg production. Farm-fresh egg availability depends on daylight, weather, age, molting, season, and what the hens are actually laying.
The flock is also a favorite part of a farm visit. Chickens are active, observant, and often quick to investigate visitors who stand still long enough.

Our Katahdin sheep bring a hardy, traditional presence to the farm and help us make use of pasture in a way that is different from pigs or chickens. They graze grasses, clover, and other suitable forage as they move through the field.
Pasture quality, weather, age, pregnancy, growth, and body condition all affect what sheep need. When pasture alone is not enough, we provide hay, minerals, or appropriate supplemental feed rather than forcing an unrealistic one-size-fits-all system.
As the flock develops, we may offer lambs or breeding and meat stock. Current animals and availability will be shared through our livestock information when those offerings are ready.
